Meet the candidates for Hill.

Christine Doan and Bree Hargraves from the ATCC said they are stoked to be partnering with The Express Newspaper to create yet another Meet the Candidates forum

With the state election only weeks away, The Express Newspaper in conjunction with the Atherton Tablelands Chamber of Commerce (ATCC) is running a Meet the Candidates for the seat of Hill event on October 21 at the Atherton Hotel.

The event will allow all candidates who are running for the Seat of Hill to get up in front of their constituents and make the case for why they should be the Member for Hill.

The event will be hosted by The Express Newspapers Editor Mr Carl Portella who said it was important for the newspaper to become involved. “As a news medium that covers a large area of Far North Queensland we thought it was important for the residents in the seat of Hill to be given the opportunity to see who was running for their state seat,” Mr Portella said

“The ‘Meet the Candidates’ event is also an opportunity to ask each candidate questions on the more important issues affecting the electorate and what will be done if they are elected.”

Christine Doan from the ATCC said “Although our political choices are fairly stable in Hill, it is so important for all of us to familiarise ourselves with all the candidates,” she said.

“Both personality and policies stand out in the Meet the Candidate events, informed voters make good citizens.

“The ATCC is stoked to be partnering with The Express Newspaper to create yet another Meet the Candidates forum.”

Ms Doan also said that it was great that Australian voters could still engage in town hall-style question and answer meetings. “As we turn our stunned gazes northeast to the USA’s crazy election season, it’s time for all of us to take a different path,” she said.

“I love the Meet the Candidate evenings because it’s a great way to catch up with each other, inform ourselves about the range of personalities and policies on offer, and make best possible personal choices on voting day.”

Each candidate will have five minutes to do their introductory speech. After the break candidates will then have one minute each to respond to questions from the gallery that residents will be asked to write down upon arrival.

Food and drink will be available, there will be limited seating and social distancing rules will apply.

The Atherton Hotel is at 90 Main Street, doors open at 6pm for a 6.30pm start.
