New resort for Mareeba Shire

Artists impressions submitted to the MSC for the new Crystalbrook station resort.

Crystalbrook Collection’s Chairman and Founder, Ghassan Aboud, will be able to add another luxury resort to his portfolio, after the Mareeba Shire Council (MSC) approved an application to “support a material change of use (short term accommodation) over land located at Crystalbrook road, Crystalbrook.”

This means the Syrian Millionaires company GAG Crystalbrook Station Pty Ltd has been given the green light to expand the existing Crystalbrook Lodge located 26 km south-west of Chillagoe. The station currently has a five-bedroom lodge set on a private 120ha freshwater lake.

The plans for expansion at Crystalbrook Station include four stand-alone accommodation cabins, including 12 single-bed, double-storey eco-suites and two eco-villas across two floors.

A commercial recreation centre, camping ground, pool, staff and managers quarters will also be incorporated in the development.

New access roads, car parking, a solar farm and associated electrical infrastructure will complete the $10-million master plan to transform the rural cattle station into a luxury tourist destination.

The Cattle station currently supplies meat for Crystalbrook’s collection of hotels and restaurants across Australia.

Mareeba Shire Mayor Angela Toppin said she was excited about Crystalbrook’s decision to proceed with the development amid current economic and tourism decline.

“This latest development by Crystalbrook instils confidence in the Shire at a time that tourism and the has suffered a major blow due to COVID-19,” Cr Toppin said.

“I welcome any development to our Shire that will boost tourism, stimulate the economy and create jobs.”

The Express approached Crystalbrook Collection Management for comment.
