Both Coles and Woolworths have announced that their online home delivery services are currently suspended.
Stephanie who is a 70-year-old pensioner from Mareeba is house-bound due to the Covid-19 Virus. “The advice is for me not to leave the house, due to my age and my health, but when I tried to order my groceries online, I couldn’t do it. When I rang Coles they told me they didn’t have enough staff to deliver to me”
Stephanie suffers from Asthma, respiratory problems and has limited lung capacity has been told that just leaving the house could be fatal.
“When I rang Coles, they told me to get a neighbour to go to the shops for me, but none of my neighbours is willing to do that”
When The Express heard about Stephanie’s plight we decided to drop around some groceries to her free of charge “I’m so grateful, I didn’t want anything special just some basics like bread, milk, eggs and some vegetables, thankyou so much.”

In a written statement from Coles Media, “We’re in the early stages of rolling out our new Coles Online Priority Service (COPS) and we’re looking to bring this service to as many vulnerable customers as possible, hopefully by the end of the week.
“Our priority is ensuring we can offer a good range of everyday grocery essentials with high availability to our customers who find it difficult to shop in-store. Please check back here for further updates on this home delivery service, we’ll be making it available as soon as we can.”

It’s believed that all Coles stores are currently affected by the suspension
Woolworths Atherton has also said that their online home deliveries have been suspended.
According to the Woolworth’s website “We have temporarily suspended our usual delivery operations out of selected Australian supermarkets until further notice. We’re ramping up delivery capacity out of our dedicated online customer fulfilment centres in order to service as many vulnerable customers as possible.
“We’ll look to resume our usual delivery operations out of our supermarkets as soon as possible.”
