Queensland Schools to start heading back

Minister for Education and Industrial Relations Grace Grace confirmed that the goal is to welcome back all year levels to school on May 25

Breaking news:

This morning the Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced that state school students will return to the classroom in stages, starting from Monday, May 11.

✏️ Students in Kindy, Prep, Year 1, Year 11 and 12 will return to school this Monday.
✏️ Students in Years 2-10 will continue remote learning at home.
✏️ Children of essential workers & vulnerable children in Years 2- 10 are still able to attend school.

The situation will be reviewed on May 15.

State Education Minister Grace Grace also emphasised it was essential from anyone who was unwell to stay away from schools and that the goal is to welcome back all year levels to school on May 25 if low COVID-19 transmission rates continue and said that.

“Some parents/carers of students in Kindy-Year 1, Year 11-12 may still choose to keep their children at home and that is respected.” The Minister said

“In these cases, parents/carers are responsible for ensuring their children stay home and continue working on learning material already provided by teachers & resources on the learning@home website.

“These changes are all in line with the advice of health experts both here in Queensland and in Canberra.

“We believe this phased return to school is the safest and most sensible approach for Queensland families during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Ms Grace said increased cleaning would be undertaken at schools, and protocols around social distancing wherever possible would remain in place.
