Handing over the reins after 21 years

John and Jan De Lai pass on the keys to the business to Janelle and Cameron De Lai.

JOHN and Jan De Lai from Bruno’s Batteries and Outback Solar and Outdoors are calling it a day – it’s time to hang up the boots and enjoy what’s left of life.

That’s the sentiment that was on their minds when John and Jan decided it was time to retire and pass the business on to their son Cameron and his wife Janelle.

In reflection Jan said

“It is the right time for us to go, we have thoroughly enjoyed running the business and meeting all the great people who have supported us in the last 21 years from this current location.”

“We will both take the opportunity to do some of the things we’ve been meaning to do and really just enjoy life.”

It all began in 1958 when Italian immigrant Bruno De Lai saw a business opportunity after he began making handmade rubber case batteries and the business grew to what it is today.

The Byrnes street location which houses Bruno’s Batteries and Outback Solar and Outdoors has now been sold to Cameron and Janelle De Lai and they both take a giant leap forward after moving from interstate about three years ago.

Getting away from the hustle and bustle of city life and the lifestyle change were some of the reasons they decided to move back home and with the move comes this wonderful opportunity for Cameron and his family.

Cameron brings with him an enormous amount of expertise: A qualified electrician, an accredited solar installer, specialist security installer and a wealth of experience in electronics.

Ending your working life is always emotional but John and Jan know they have left what they have worked for all their lives in very good hands.

“A huge thank you to all our past and present customers,” Jansaid.
